New classes for Fall 2017

Michele Beresford-Roger, water color artist and illustrator of the children’s books, “Mr. Kiwi: Trouble With Mr. Mow-It-All” (2016) and “Michigan Conservatory Harp Method: Magic Level” (2017) will be offering watercolor painting classes beginning Monday Sept 11, 2017 from 1:30-3pm. Classes will be offered every OTHER Monday.
In Michele’s class, they cover a children’s book from literature to inspire the painting, a water color painting method and then a step by step painting lesson. Children are $15/lesson and adults who stay for the class may paint for free.
The classes are offered at the Huron Valley Council for the Arts on Livingston Rd in Highland, Michigan. Pre-scheduling is preferred but drop-ins are also welcome.
This year’s topics will include:
Sept 11: A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’ Engle, Intro to Watercolor paints and techniques
Sept. 25: Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White. Painting animals
Oct. 9: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis. Using watercolors as washes
Oct. 23: James and the Giant Peach by R. Dahl. Abstract painting
Nov. 6: The Phantom Toll Booth by Norton Juster. Painting and drawing with watercolor pencils
Nov. 20: Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O’ Brien. Painting and perspective
Dec. 4: Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg. Painting for holiday or New Years cards/prints

Michele will be offering watercolor classes with themes based on children’s literature at the Huron Valley Council for the Arts starting in June of 2017. Presently, here are the themes with additions to be added regularly. Classes are $15/child/session. Parents are welcome to stay and paint for free.

Tues, June 6, from 1-3 pm: “Wind in the Willows” by Kenneth Grahame will be our inspiration for art this week. Water scenes and small forest animals with be our focus.
Tues, June 20, from 1-3 pm: “The Dragons Are Singing Tonight” by Jack Prelutsky will be our inspiration for this week. From traditional dragons to present day versions who live in our computers, dragons will be our focus from this fantastic book of children’s poetry.
Tues, July 11, from 1-3 pm: “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carol will be our inspiration for the week. From the Queen of Heart’s rose garden to the living chess board and garden in the book, today we will be painting our dream gardens.
Tues, July 25, from 1-3 pm: “The Firework Maker’s Daughter” by Philip Pullman will be our inspiration. Mountain scenes and intro to using watercolor pencils with watercolor paints.
